Contribution to the European Communist Meeting

Dear Comrades,

Firstly I would like to thank the comrades from the Communist Party of Greece for organizing this new edition of the European Communist Meeting. This is an important meeting point four our Parties and the effort of the Greek comrades is highly appreciated by PCPE.

Allow me to say that we are facing new situations and phenomena which are a real challenge for the communist parties not only in Europe, but all around the world. The downing of the Russian warplane by Turkey is a proof of this. Our Party is deeply concerned about the developments in Syria, particularly after the terrorist attacks in Paris one month ago. Those terrible attacks are being used for two goals which are useful to monopoly capital: promoting an escalation in the militaristic field and a new step in the restriction of the people's liberties.

The acceleration of the sharpening of the contradictions between the imperialist powers is a fact and the communists must be well aware of the situation and discuss the possibilites of joint actions in the near future, we must deepen in our collaboration and coordination.

PCPE assesses that we are marching to a scenario which is similar to the one in the eve of the First World War: the different powers are escalating in their confrontations and a strong effort is being made in order to confuse the people and the workers, so they rally behind the banners of their own exploiters, of their “own” bourgeois class, in their insane race for market control, profit and new fields for the expanded reproduction of capital.

The situation in Syria can not be separated from the other factors which can be depicted as a brutal attack to the working class and popular sectors in our countries and worldwide. The waves of refugees and migrants coming from the countries in which the imperialist powers are acting, mainly in Middle East and Africa, are used by the capitalists to develop their strategy of dividing the working class even more, in this case by promoting dangerous ideas about the migrants and taking advantage of their desperate situation in order to push down, even more, the salaries and the working conditions in our countries.

How must we face this situation? There is a risk that our positions can be misunderstood and used against us. The use of the migrants to lower the salaries is not an idea, it is a fact, but this fact is in benefit of one sector exclusively: the bourgeois class, the capitalists. We must strongly fight against all those who promote the idea of confronting different sectors of the working class and we should increase our efforts in the internationalist struggle, meaning not only solidarity with other peoples who are victims of imperialism, but also with the workers coming from those countries, standing as the same international class that we are aginst our exploiters.

Dear Comrades, the situation is dangerous and our Parties struggle under very difficult conditions. We should be very aware of the fact that we need to seek more fields of cooperation, that we need to accelerate our joint efforts because our class enemies are developing their strategies very quickly.

We need to support the French comrades in this new scenario and give more voice to their oppossition to the dictatorial measures adopted by the social-democratic government. We need to support the German comrades in their struggle against the extreme right positions developing in their country. We need to support the Greek comrades when they develop a constant struggle against the most clear example of what means the government of the new social-democrats. We need to support the Turkish comrades in their struggle against Erdogan's regime. We need to support the Russian comrades in their struggle against Putin's manipulation of the Soviet experience. We need to support Easter European comrades in their struggle against the heirs of the Nazis and the collaborators who spread xenophobic and chauvinistic positions among the masses. We need to support our comrades in Britain in face of the recent militaristic developments. We ask for your support also in the different struggles we have before us in Spain, which is becoming a strategic point for the attacks against the peoples, as shown by the recent manoeuvres of NATO. The list is very long, comrades, I can not mention all the struggles being carried out by our parties and our peoples.

But we should be very aware that the peace and social justice can not only be achieved with our separate efforts, and not only in Europe. We must develop our bonds with the communist parties and revolutionary organizations elsewhere in the world, we have to be the champions of internationalism and focus in the efforts to separate our countries from the imperialist structures such as the EU and the NATO, and also to deeply modify the course of each and every country in the field of international relations. Our separation from the EU and NATO would be useless if Spanish monopolies would still be free to plunder the peoples of other countries in Africa or Latin America. We need to move forward to a whole new system, to a whole new kind of relations in the labour field, in the social field and in the economic field. We need socialism, comrades.
