Mass demonstrations of PAME in dozens of cities

Mass and militant demonstrations of PAME in Athens, Piraeus, Τhessalonica and dozens of other cities in Greece were held on Friday (3/10) and Saturday (4/10).  These demonstrations were a step on the way to the nationwide demonstration on the 1st of November in Syntagma sq. , which is being organized with the decisions of general meetings of 417 federations, labour centres and trade unions.

In Athens on Saturday 4/10, thousands of workers, unemployed, young people, women and pensioners marched from Omonia to Syntagma sq., where the Greek parliament is.

“The only path against the offensive of capital and the government is the organization of the struggle, the resistance against the expansion of flexible labour relations and the reduction of salaries, the abolition of all the anti-worker laws, the defence of the collective labour agreements”, stressed Vasilis Petropoulos in the central speech on behalf of PAME “we call on the workers to give a vote of confidence to their strength and their struggles and thus pave the way for the overthrow. On the 1st of November, Athens must be flooded with workers, youth, unemployed, self-employed, farmers, pensioners, struggling for the life that belongs to them and not the crumbs that the servants of the realism of the EU and the capitalist profits want to share with us. There are all the preconditions for us to have a life with rights, on the basis of our contemporary needs. We must take matters into our own hands,. And after the 1st of November, on the baisis of all this work, we must prepare major strike mobilizations, assessing the scale of the offensive generally, in each sector, in each workplace, with the forces of the class-oriented movement in the front line of the struggle.”

The GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, attended the demonstration in Athens. He mentioned the following in his statement to journalists: “ There is one message: no waiting, no to the illusions that are being sown by the misleading two-party squabbles inside the parliament. We now organize the struggle inside the trade unions, together with PAME, with the other militant rallies, with the organization of the people’s alliance, with the strengthening the KKE everywhere. For permanent and stable work for all, for Collective Labour Agreements, satisfactory salaries, not less than 751 euros a month, with a return of the 13th and 14th salaries and pensions, for social security rights for all the workers, for tax exemptions for workers, for the abolition of all the anti-people laws and all the tax measures that chiefly affect the popular families.”
