Esteemed comrades

Considering the great importance of the forthcoming legislative elections of January 25^th in Greece, and giving expression to the traditional relations of friendship and internationalist solidarity between our two Parties, we wish to convey to you and to all members and friends  of the CPG, our best wishes of success for this electoral battle.

We wish to express our conviction that strengthening the CPG, also on the electoral front, is in the interest of the Greek workers and people, and of the success of the courageous struggle, in which the Greek Communists have played a decisive role, a struggle against the policies which at the service of the great capital and imperialism, have imposed a terrible social regression and great suffering upon the Greek people.

We also wish to express our firm condemnation of the foreign pressure and interference, first and foremost by the European Union, which seeks to condition the electoral expression of the Greek people's profound discontentment and of the desire for change. This interference also seeks to ensure the essential continuity of the policies of the right-wing / social democracy coalition government, to conceal the crisis of the European Union of the monopolies and the big powers, and to continue and even strengthen the neoliberal, federalist and militarist course of the process of the European capitalist integration.

At a moment in which the CPG is committed to such an important battle for the future of Greece, the PCP – regardless of differences in the situations and the assessments of our Parties – wishes to confirm to you the solidarity of the Portuguese Communists and to formulate our best wishes for the 25^th January elections.

Estimados camaradas,

Perante a grande importância de que se revestem as eleições legislativas na Grécia do próximo dia 25 de Janeiro, e como expressão das tradicionais relações de amizade e de solidariedade internacionalista entre os nossos dois partidos, transmitimos-vos, e a todos os militantes e amigos do PCG, os melhores votos de sucesso nesta batalha eleitoral.

Queremos expressar-vos a nossa convicção de que o reforço do PCG, nomeadamente no plano eleitoral, é do interesse dos trabalhadores e do povo grego e do sucesso da sua corajosa luta, em que os comunistas gregos têm tido papel determinante, contra as políticas que, ao serviço do grande capital e do imperialismo, têm imposto ao povo grego um terrível retrocesso social e grandes sofrimentos.

Queremos também expressar-vos a nossa firme condenação das pressões e ingerências externas, a começar pela União Europeia, que visam condicionar a expressão eleitoral do profundo descontentamento e vontade de mudança do povo grego. Ingerências que visam assegurar a continuação do essencial das políticas do governo de coligação direita/social-democracia, contornar a crise em que se debate a União Europeia dos monopólios e das grandes potências, e prosseguir e mesmo reforçar o rumo neoliberal, federalista e militarista do processo de integração capitalista europeu.

No momento em que o PCG está empenhado numa batalha tão importante para o futuro da Grécia, o PCP, independentemente de diferenças de situação e de opinião entre os nossos dois partidos, quer confirmar-vos nesta ocasião a solidariedade dos comunistas portugueses e formular os melhores votos nas eleições de 25 de Janeiro.
