               Communist Party of Greece

12th January 2015

Dear Comrades,

The Workers' Party of Ireland sends warm comradely greetings to the Communist Party of Greece and extends its best wishes, solidarity and support to the KKE in the parliamentary elections in Greece to be held on 25th January 2015. The WPI recognises that this election takes place in difficult circumstances. On the one hand, New Democracy and the EU seek to create a climate of fear and intimidation, to threaten the Greek people with the alleged consequences of failure to back their agenda. On the other hand, SYRIZA and its supporters in the Party of the European Left are attempting to exploit and divert the understandable anger of the people in the direction of the false illusion that it can manage capitalism better and more efficiently than the bourgeoisie, placing their faith in the prospect of neo-Keynesian reform within the current failed system, preserving private ownership and the rule of capital rather than pursuing the abolition of the capitalist system itself, seeking to re-assure the ruling class that they pose no real threat to their interests and rejecting the need for a revolutionary transition from capitalism to socialism.

The position of the KKE is based on a solid analysis of contemporary capitalism in Greece, recognising the contradiction between the social character of labour and the private appropriation of the results of labour which arises through capitalist ownership of the means of production and the inevitable and irreconcilable conflict between social classes.

The KKE, through its struggles and mass political work, through the actions of PAME, has demonstrated its unswerving commitment to the interests of the Greek working class and the poor popular strata.  The KKE has made clear that no solution is to be found inside the framework of the EU, NATO and the capitalist development path. A strong vote for the KKE in this election will represent a clear class choice which will strengthen the working class and the poor, weaken the bourgeois political system and demonstrate a decisive rejection of austerity and the attacks upon workers by the Troika and the Greek ruling class.

The Workers' Party of Ireland is convinced that only the steadfast and principled stance of the Communist Party of Greece is capable of providing a clear class based alternative to the failed capitalist system.

The Workers' Party of Ireland continues to applaud the struggle of the KKE. We extend our solidarity and best wishes to all the militants and supporters of the KKE; to the Greek working class and the popular strata. The struggle of the KKE is also our struggle. We wish our comrades in the KKE success in the elections taking place on 25th January 2015 and in its ongoing and continuing struggle to establish workers’-people’s power, for the overthrow of capitalism and the construction of the new socialist-communist society.

Victory to the KKE!

With sincere comradely greetings,

Michael Donnelly,
