Dear comrades,

As Greece prepares for parliamentary elections on 25 January, the Communist Party of Australia sends best wishes and warmest fraternal greetings to the Communist Party of Greece. The people of Greece have suffered terribly at the hands of the national government and the European Union as they attempt to place the whole burden of the capitalist crisis in the country on the shoulders of the workers and other exploited people of Greece. New Democracy and SYRIZA are presenting variations on a failed theme – propping up capitalism at the expense of the people. There is no capitalist way out of the crisis. Only the KKE is presenting a practical way forward – working people's power, the repudiation of the debt, withdrawal from NATO and the EU and an immediate start to placing the major productive forces of the country under public ownership and control.

The KKE doesn't stop at declarations. It is a Party of action that has earned respect in the international workers' movement through struggle and mass political work in organisations such as PAME. We know that ongoing, permanent progressive change will never come to Australia without a strong Communist Party of Australia and the same can be said of Greece. The breakthrough that the people of Greece so need and desire won't come without the strengthening of the KKE in all aspects of its work. Our thoughts will be with you on 25 January.
