The KKE honoured the 70th anniversary of the Antifascist Victory

The GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, spoke at a very large rally, in the framework of the political-cultural event organized by the CC of the party for the 70th anniversary of the Antifascist victory of the peoples. 1945-2015.

The event was held in Kaisariani, where on May 1 1944 the Nazis executed 200 communists, in retaliation for the activity of ELAS.

Thousands of people honoured the great people’s victory, at the same time sending a resounding message that the falsification of history will not succeed. The streets of Kaisariani were filled from early in the evening, with thousands of people, who arrived to visit first the important exhibition of historical material of the KKE from the period of resistance against fascism in the townhall (the mayor of the municipality is a communist) and later they attended the event. KNE’s contingent which met in the town’s square and marched to the event was very large. There was also the special presence of the PEAEA-DSE (partisan veterans) associations with their banners at the rally. There was a musical-theatrical performance after the speech.

Before the event, the GS of the CC of the KKE and the representatives of the Secretariat of the “Initiative of Communist and Workers Parties of Europe”, who were in Athens, laid a wreath at the memorial of the dead.

Dimitris Koutsoumpas, in his speech, noted the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union, of its people, the Soviet State and the Red Army, which is recognized by the peoples all over the world as an immortal epic.

He underlined that it is the duty of every well-meaning person to decisively repel the falsification of history, in which the EU plays the leading role.

D. Koutsoumpas mentioned the contribution of the national liberation movements in the occupied capitalist countries, adding that we honour the communists, who gave their lives, as the communists parties were at the heart of this titanic struggle.

The GS of the CC of the KKE also referred to the imperialist character of the 2nd World War, noting that the “womb” that gives birth to imperialist wars is imperialism itself. D. Koutsoumpas made reference to the lessons from the history of the international communist movement, as well as the sharpening of the inter-imperialist contradictions today.

We will seek in the next few days to upload the entire speech of the GS of the CC of the KKE in the days to follow.
