The trade unions tabled a draft law on Collective Labour Agreements and are preparing a general strike (photo report)
Over 500 trade unions, which support the nationwide initiative of resistance to the new anti-worker labour reforms, organized mass demonstrations on the 17th and 18th of October in Athens, Thessalonica and 20 other cities. They are calling on the workers to organize their struggle to recover their losses, increase salaries and pensions, abolish anti-worker laws, satisfy their contemporary needs.
A mass demonstration was held in Syntagma sq. in Athens, while a trade union delegation tabled the draft law on Collective Labour Agreements in parliament. The draft law was submitted to all the parties, with the exception of fascist Golden Dawn, by a delegation of trade unions. The Parliamentary Group of the KKE, in response to this demand of theirs, tabled the relevant draft law, which had been drawn up at the initiative of federations and labour centres and is now cosigned by 513 trade union organizations, to be voted on in Parliament.
The All-workers' Militant Front (PAME) issued a call for participation in the demonstrations of the trade unions, while the GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumpas, participated in the rally in Athens and made the following statement to the representatives of the mass media:
"The Greek people must throw into the rubbish bin the lies and the propaganda of the government, the findings of the various alleged specialists, the pressure of the creditors, of the EU and the IMF and chart their own course of struggle. We need a general uprising everywhere, with the working class in the forefront, in alliance with the other popular strata, aiming against the monopolies and the capitalist path of development itself, which brings us poverty, crises, unemployment. There is no other solution, there is no other way out."
