This is a difficult path, but it can strengthen the struggle and prepare the working class and popular strata to be equal to the complex developments that we are facing

An International Conference was organized on the 4th of June in the framework of the 22nd Congress of AKEL on the topic “the threats of fascism and the reactionary forces in the era of imperialism and wars”. Giorgos Marinos member of the PB of the CC of the KKE, participated in the meeting. You can find his speech below:

Dear comrades,

We would like to thank AKEL for inviting us to this International Meeting, to express our solidarity with the Cypriot people and to assure them that the KKE will continue to stand by their side in the struggle for their interests and their needs so as to pave the way for a solution regarding the Cyprus issue that will eradicate the consequences of invasion and occupation and will rule out the possibility of confederation and partition that will create new hazards for the people.

 Dear comrades,

We recently honoured the 70th anniversary of the antifascist victory of the peoples and it is necessary to act persistently in order to defend historical truth, in order to project the important role of the communist parties in the people’s struggle and the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union and socialism in the defeat of fascism.

We are obliged to confront anticommunism, the anti-historical positions of the EU that seeks to equate Nazism with communism and supports the bourgeois governments that legitimize fascist powers, ban the activity of the communist parties, the communist ideology and symbols as in the Baltic countries, in Ukraine and generally in the former socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

The apologists of capitalism present bourgeois parliamentary democracy as a “healthy” sociopolitical reality that at some point suffers an “aberration” in terms of management.

This has nothing to do with reality. These approaches that detach fascism and war from the exploitative nature of capitalism, the laws and contradictions that permeate it are whitewashing the capitalist system, fostering illusions and confusion in order to disarm the labour and people’s movement.

It has been proved in practice that capitalism is the source of the peoples suffering, of wars, crises, fascism, refugees and migration.

History has demonstrated that fascism is one of the forms used by the monopolies to exercise their power, it defends capitalist ownership over the means of production, the profits of the minority, the exploitation of man by man. It utilizes the painful consequences of the capitalist crisis, poverty and unemployment, it exploits the problems of the ruined petty-bourgeois strata, the decay of the bourgeois parliamentary parties, it fosters nationalism and uses all means to assimilate popular forces.

This is confirmed by the trajectory of “Golden Dawn” the criminal, Nazi organization in Greece which is supported by sections of capital and backed by the bourgeois state. It is committed to anticommunism, fosters racism and organizes criminal activities in order to break the labour and people’s movement.

Fascism can neither be tackled by the capitalist system that breeds it, nor by the bourgeois state nor by the so called “antifascist fronts” that are used by the system’s parties  in order to whitewash their responsibilities.

As Brecht wrote: “Fascism can only be resisted as capitalism, as the most naked and oppressive form of capitalism”.

Fascism can be tackled only through the organized struggle of the working class, the people’s alliance, the development of the class struggle with the prospect of putting an end to the monopolies power, to the capitalist system.

 Dear comrades,

The developments in the Middle East, Northern Africa, Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans Ukraine are very alarming.

The capitalist crisis has led to the sharpening of the competition of the monopolies, to the sharpening of the contradictions between the capitalist states and the imperialist alliances for the control of markets, the energy resources and pipelines.

This is the basis of the imperialist interventions and wars and the bourgeois governments can not muddy the waters using various pretexts in order to justify new interventions and wars.

The flashpoints in our region place the danger of a generalized military conflict on the agenda.

In Greece, the current SYRIZA-ANEL government follows the path of the previous governments, it maintains the anti-people measures, it is preparing a new agreement-memorandum with the Commission, ECB and IMF (Troika) and further entangles the country in the mechanisms of NATO and the EU, in the imperialist competition for the interests of the bourgeois class, advancing the so-called “Geo-strategic Enhancement”.

The Prime Minister claimed that Greece’s participation in NATO and the EU is not disputed.

The Foreign Minister agreed with the decisions of the recent NATO summit in Antalya at the expense of Russia and for the upgrading of Turkey’s position. Turkey that continues to be provocative in the Aegean. He led the dancing together with the NATO hawks. The government adopts the positions of the USA and EU and tries to justify participation in imperialist wars under the pretext of the confronting the jihadists and “protecting the Christian populations”.

The Defense Minister stated that the government is ready to provide armed forces and military bases in order to facilitate NATO in the war against “terrorism”. The government’s representative confirmed the statement of the Defense Minister that the government will hold discussions with the USA for the installation of a new NATO basis on an island in the Aegean.

The military exercises with the USA and Israel are continuing, there is talk of a Greece-Cyprus-Israel defense doctrine. The role of Israel, which murders the Palestinian people, is being prettified.

Very useful conclusions can be drawn from this specific material.

Any entrapment inside the plans of the bourgeois class disarms the labour-people’s movement, condemns it to being imprisoned on the terrain that gives rises to wars, on the terrain of peace with the monopolies’ gun to the peoples’ head.

Our party is struggling for the closure of the US-NATO bases, for the return of Greek military forces from abroad, against the country’s involvement in imperialist wars. For disengagement from NATO and the EU, with the people taking the reins of power.

The KKE argues that the struggle for the defense of borders and sovereign rights from the standpoint of the working class and the popular strata can not be detached from the struggle for the overthrow of capital’s power, for socialism.

This is a difficult path, but it can strengthen the struggle and prepare the working class and popular strata to be equal to the complex developments that we are facing.
