The 14th Congress of the Federation of Women of Greece (OGE) was held from 5 to 7 June 2026 focusing on the theme of women’s equality in the face of war, exploitation, and oppression.
The Congress coincided with the 50th anniversary of OGE’s activity, emphasizing the key message that collective organization and militant participation are the forces capable of addressing contemporary social problems and the various forms of inequality faced by women.
Hundreds of delegates from across Greece took part in the proceedings, including representatives of trade unions, student, agricultural, and social organizations. The contributions highlighted issues related to labour exploitation, staff shortages in public hospitals, and the difficulties faced by rural women, self-employed women, and young female workers. Particular emphasis was placed on safeguarding labour and social rights, supporting maternity, combating violence against women, and strengthening joint action between the women’s, labour, and popular movements. Participants stressed that only organized collective action can bring about meaningful change in the lives of women and in society as a whole.
The opening day of the conference featured a rich cultural programme. The artistic performance We Dance Because We Live combined music, dance, poetry, and visual imagery, highlighting the close relationship between art and social struggle. Each participant received a commemorative edition of Bertolt Brecht’s play Señora Karar’s Rifles. An art exhibition was also held at the venue, organized with the support of artists collaborating with the radical women’s movement. These events underscored the connection between social struggle, cultural creativity, and historical memory.
