The strengthening of the lists supported by the KKE in the local elections for the councils of the 13 regions and 300 municipalities of Greece sent a positive and hopeful message last Sunday. The nationwide percentage of “People’s Rally”, with the red carnation as its symbol, that was openly supported by the KKE all over the country (as the direct participation of political parties in local elections is not allowed) was 8.8% (half a million votes), i.e. double the vote the KKE received in the parliamentary elections in June 2012.
At the same time the governmental forces of ND, as well as of PASOK, concealed their candidates under the banner of the “independent”. While the percentage received by SYRIZA was lower than that of 2012.
Despite the results of the KKE in the regional elections, the party noted in its call: No rest! No complacency! We have the difficult battle of the EU parliamentary elections in front of us. The communists in these elections are confronting the blackmail and dilemmas that already being systematically promoted by the coalition government and official opposition (SYRIZA), which aim at trapping the consciousness of the working class and the popular strata inside the management of the system.
However, the people do not need the “stability” promised by the coalition government of ND-PASOK, which is the stability in the anti-people political line. The governing parties are investing in fear and blackmail, claiming that if the people vote against these parties the country will face uncertain hazards. They want to trap the people in the current path that will continue the bankruptcy of the people in the next period. They are lying when they promise relief through borrowing from the markets. The big businessmen will again be the winners and not the people who will continue to bleed in the name of competitiveness and capitalist growth.
The governmental rotation which is sought by SYRIZA is, of course, not a solution for the workers as it is inside the framework determined by the EU and the anti-people capitalist development path. New measures will be added to the existing anti-people ones that are being implemented all over the EU! This is the truth that is being concealed by SYRIZA. It is investing in false promises that the EU can change, that the people can win without resistance, without conflict against the shackles of the monopolies and the EU.
SYRIZA’s differences with ND do not constitute any real opposition to the anti-people political line. Its obeisance to the EU one way street means the acceptance of the EU commitments, submission to the goal of competitiveness. It even postpones the abolition of the 400 implementation laws, via which the anti-people offensive has sharpened over the last few years, to some vague point in the future.
SYRIZA has made commitments to the imperialist organizations. For this reason, its president recently stressed in public (in an interview with the ANTENNA television network) that Greece is truly a country “that belongs in the western framework, in the EU, in NATO and this is not in dispute”. He even declared that he seeks “social consensus” after the national elections and that he can cooperate with forces from the parties of today’s coalition government if they “emancipate” themselves from their leaderships. Finally, the last “left” fig leaf of SYRIZA has fallen to the ground. What it says about an overthrow is pure demagoguery.
This holds true for “new” parties like the “Olive Tree” and the “River” that emerge from social-democracy, created out of the same old “material” and state that they are available to participate in anti-people coalition governments.
The workers are called on to isolate the Nazi Golden Dawn. Its criminal activity arises from its Nazi ideology. There exists more evidence today for people to understand that they are the lackeys of the big business interests. For this reason the system supports and utilizes them at the expense of the people. In Ukraine, NATO, the USA and the EU promoted the Nazis, the equivalents of Golden Dawn in this country, in order to massacre the peoples.
What the people needs is a strong KKE, The people must wait no longer. In the same way that the wolves can not become sheep, the EU can not become people-friendly and inside the capitalist development path there can be no substantial recovery of the people’s rights and gains, nothing new can be created by the rotten bourgeois political system.
