The Europarliamentary Group of the KKE expresses its opposition to the postponement of yesterday’s (10/6/2015) vote in the EU parliament in relation to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the USA (TTIP).

Its statement notes amongst other things:

“The Europarliamentary Group of the KKE is categorically opposed to the postponement of the vote in relation to the recommendations report of the  International Trade Committee on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the USA (TTIP). The President of the EU Parliament in consultation with the political groups of the People’s Party, the Social-Democrats, the Liberals, the Conservatives-Reformists, unilaterally decided to withdraw the vote from the agenda, utilizing the reactionary regulations of the EU Parliament.

The postponement of the vote serves the need to find compromises and balances amongst the political groups of the EU parliament and their internal cohesion. This postponement is a result of the conflicting interests and competition of sections of capital in the EU in relation to the Transatlantic Agreement. The discussion, given that there would be no vote, would be transformed into a purely academic one, concealing the real stance of the political forces towards the anti-people agreement: i.e. which ones support it and which ones, despite the asterisks and comments, such as the forces of SYRIZA and GUE/NGL, indulge in a host of amendments, attempting allegedly to…correct it, strategically moving in the same direction.

The KKE as it has repeatedly stressed rejects the TTIP and underlines that recommendations, corrections and amendments can not improve it. It is in the peoples’ interests to reject it and to rise up against this anti-people agreement and the system that has given rise to it.”
