On 20/4/2022, the Association uniting those who have studied in socialist countries held an intervention at the Ukrainian embassy.During the meeting with embassy representatives, the below statement was delivered:

“As an Association, we have taken a clear stand against the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, as a dangerous stage in the escalation of the confrontation between imperialist poles, this time at the expense of the people in Ukraine.

At the same time, we are particularly concerned about the arrest in early March of Mikhail Kononovich, Secretary of the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Ukraine, and his brother Aleksander. We demand: The immediate release of the Kononovich brothers and anyone who is detained on charges of their ideology. The repeal of all repressive anti-democratic measures, such as the banning of the Communist Party and, most recently, of all opposition parties.

Moreover, given that the Security Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions and declared Greek citizens personae non grata, including the Vice President of the Greek Parliament, GiorgosLambroulis, who is a member of our Association, and other of our members, on the pretext that they participated as observers in an electoral process taking place in the Donbass region, thus expressing solidarity with the people of Ukraine, we demand the immediate lifting of the above sanctions and the status of persona non grata, which has been imposed on members of our Association and on those who expressed solidarity with the suffering people of Ukraine”.

A delegation also to the Russian embassy

A delegation of the Board of the Association had a meeting on the same day with a representative of the Russian Federation embassy, with its First Secretary. There, the Association members, by delivering an announcement, expressed their denunciation of the statements made by the country’s President, Vl. Putin, who, in his address on February 24, stated that Lenin and the Bolsheviks were responsible for today’s contradictions created by intra-imperialist competition, and that his government would teach the Ukrainian government “de-communization”.

In fact, they pointed out that the “denazification” and the “decommunization” processes cannot coexist, especially when the former becomes a pretext for the latter.

They also demanded information on the prosecution of members of Marxist groups in Russia, such as the recent example in Ufa, and on the persecution of those who react against the imperialist war. Finally they demanded the immediate cessation of persecution on ideological grounds, and the immediate release of those who are detained.
