Delegation of the KKE in Havana

Internationalist solidarity with Cuba is invaluable

The delegation of the KKE, consisting of Giorgos Marinos, member of the PB of the CC of the KKE, Eliseos Vagenas, member of the CC of the KKE and head of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE, and Aris Evangelidis, member of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE, returned to Athens from Cuba.

The delegation of the KKE, which was in Havana from Wednesday 13/7 to Saturday 16/7 after an invitation from the Communist Party of Cuba, had a series of meetings with party, state, trade union, and youth cadres of Cuba.

In particular, the delegation of the KKE met with Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the PB of the CC of the CP of Cuba, responsible for organizational issues and international relations.

It also met with Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Cuban Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs.

It also had multiple meetings with a delegation from the International Relations Section of the CC of the CP of Cuba, headed by Ángel Arzuaga, Coordinator of the International Relations Section of the CP of Cuba, and Juan Carlos Marzán, Deputy Coordinator of the International Relations Section.

The delegation of the KKE also met with a delegation of the Communist Youth of Cuba and the General Confederation of the Workers of Cuba. It visited the “Finlay” research centre, where 2 of the 4 Cuban vaccines against the coronavirus were discovered (soberana2 and soberana plus), and despite a busy schedule of meetings, it also had the opportunity to visit businesses and neighbourhoods in the Cuban capital, as well as the “Fidel Castro Centre”.

Roberto Morales Ojeda: “The KKE is a firm friend of Cuba against the US blockade”

In a meeting with the delegation of the KKE headed by Giorgos Marinos, member of the PB of the CC of the KKE, Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the PB of the CC of the CP of Cuba, referred to the course of implementation of the decisions of the 8th Congress of the CP of Cuba, held in April 2021, and set out three main tasks of the party: The struggle for peace, the financial struggle, and the ideological stability, in the midst of a complex national situation caused by the intensity of the financial - trade blockade by the US government, which directly affects Cuban families and is manifested in the shortages of fuel and electricity.

He thanked the KKE for its solidarity and support to Cuba and reaffirmed the high importance that the CP of Cuba attaches to the 22nd International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, which will be held in Havana in October, in the midst of the international economic crisis aggravated by COVID-19 and the media campaigns orchestrated by US imperialism against socialist ideas and especially against the Cuban Revolution.

For his part, G. Marinos particularly emphasized the steadfast solidarity of the KKE with Cuba, its people, and the CP of Cuba and cited various examples from the struggle to lift the unacceptable and criminal blockade against Cuba by the USA. He also informed about the situation in Greece and the workers’ problems due to the policies followed by both the government of the New Democracy and the previous social-democratic government of SYRIZA, and referred extensively to the struggle of the KKE. G. Marinos also referred to the imperialist war in Ukraine, the large demonstrations in Greece against the country’s involvement, and the dangers of a generalization of the war or new hotbeds in the context of imperialist competition. The member of the PB of the CC of the KKE referred to the struggle of the communists in Greece against high prices, unemployment, and other popular problems faced by the working people due to the capitalist mode of production, as well as to the great social struggles that are developing with the important contribution of the KKE, which is working in the direction of the regroupment of the labour and trade union movement and the forging of the Social Alliance between the working class and the other urban and rural popular strata in a direction against monopolies and capitalism.
