On 30/3, the KKE and KNE honoured the communist hero Nikos Beloyannis and his comrades Nikos Kaloumenos, Ilias Argiriadis and Dimitris Batsis, who were executed 71 years ago, by holding various commemorating events.
Those present at the headquarters of the CC gathered at the entrance, where the monument to Nikos Beloyannis made by Memos Makris, which was previously situated in Budapest, is set up.
In his speech, Fanis Parris, member of the CC of the KKE, stressed that the example of Nikos Beloyannis, with his power of self-sacrifice and selflessness against every difficulty of the class struggle, is a source of inspiration today. “His life and action were inextricably linked to the Party, to the goal of liberating wage labourers from the shackles of capitalist exploitation and the abolition of social inequalities and oppression.” As the speaker noted among other things, N. Beloyannis showed in practice that the KKE must continue its action under all circumstances. The bourgeois state, by killing him, believed that it would crush the revolutionary labour movement and eliminate the KKE. However, it did not succeed. Beloyannis became an example of defiant stance for thousands of young people; he became a universal symbol of our struggle.
The people attending the event observed a minute’s silence and then flowers were laid at the monument by the GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, and the Secretary of the CC of KNE, Thodoris Kotsandis.
