The Greek presidency has further promoted the anti-people political line of the EU at the expense of the life and the rights of the working people in Greece and in all EU member-states, stressed Kostas Papadakis, MEP of the KKE, in his speech at the plenary of the European Parliament during the debate on the review of the Greek presidency that took place today in Strasbourg. The MEP of KKE underlined the following in his intervention:
“The Greek presidency of the Council of the EU has fulfilled its mission against the peoples. It further promoted the anti-people political line of the EU at the expense of the life and the rights of the working people in Greece and in all EU member-states. It reinforced big capital in the framework of the “new economic governance” and the “banking union” that serve the interests of the monopolies and is aimed against the peoples. The coalition government of ND and PASOK undertook an active role in the promotion of the imperialist strategy and the plans of the EU seeking a share from the imperialist loot for the Greek bourgeois class as well as an upgraded role in the wider region. It has been at the forefront of the open imperialist intervention of the EU-USA-NATO in the Ukraine supporting the government of the fascist forces. It provided the EU headquarters in Larissa, Greece for the command of the EU imperialist military intervention in the Central African Republic. It promoted the EU “Maritime Security Strategy” which lays the foundation for the formation of a naval military firepower of the EU capable of carrying out military interventions against the peoples. It elaborated further more the mechanisms of supression against the immigrants.
Beyond the government ND-PASOK, nor can the other parties that support the EU and the capitalist development path , regardless of what formula they propose for the management of the system, serve the people’s interests.
The peoples must wage a unified struggle against this unified attack which in the name of recovery destroys salaries and pensions, eliminates the remaining workers’ and people’s rights. It is necessary to strengthen the struggle against the anti-people measures and organize the people’s counterattack for the overthrow of the monopolies’ power and the disengagement from the EU. The KKE devotes its forces to this end, for the rights and the interests of the working class and the popular strata.”
