A mobilization of mass organizations in the Piraeus area took place on Monday, 19 January, following a fire that broke out in large fuel tanks located within the urban fabric of the Perama area.
Workers, working-class families, young people, pensioners, and all those whose lives are genuinely at risk and sacrificed on the altar of capitalist profit took part in the mobilization. They are confronted not only with the danger of a large-scale industrial accident, but also with the long-term consequences of the presence of these tanks within the residential area.
“We will not trade our lives for their profits!” the protesters declared, demanding the immediate removal of the fuel tanks from the area.
