Despite draconian security measures and attempts by the security forces to obstruct them, university students staged a militant protest outside the Prime Minister’s official seat on 6 May 2026, sending a clear message to the government not to proceed with the revision of Article 16 of the Constitution.
Ninety-six student unions from all over Greece have declared that they will not accept the undermining of their studies and degrees, nor will they allow the revision of Article 16 of the Constitution to pave the way for the introduction of tuition fees in undergraduate programmes, the widespread imposition of fees in postgraduate study, or the equivalence of their degrees with those awarded by private colleges.
