The message “NATO out, bases out – no involvement in interventions” was voiced by a large crowd that took part in the anti-imperialist rally held on 8 March in Nicosia, outside the Greek Embassy and during the march that followed to the US Embassy.
Petros Markomichalis, secretary of the Cyprus Regional Organization of the Communist Party of Greece, and Christos Kourtellaris, executive secretary of the Communist Initiative of Cyprus, addressed the rally.
In his speech, Petros Markomichalis noted, among other things: “Cyprus has become a target for retaliation because, through the British bases, it plays a decisive role in the military conflicts in the Middle East and is fully integrated into the plans and aspirations of the US and NATO in the region. These plans aim to place the US in a stronger position in its confrontation with its main rival, China, for supremacy in the imperialist system”.
The mobilization of the KKE and the Communist Initiative of Cyprus continued with a march to the US embassy, with participants loudly proclaiming that “the people will provide a way out of the war – imperialism is not invincible! “.
