From the early hours of 3 February, workers in the food and beverage sector have formed picket lines outside factories, fighting for the success of the 24-hour nationwide strike called by their federation. The strike follows the brutal workplace accident at a biscuit factory in Trikala, where five female workers lost their lives.
The workers are demanding the implementation of safety measures in their workplaces.
The KKE has submitted a new question to parliament highlighting shortcomings in the public inspection services responsible for workplace health and safety. It also pointed out the responsibilities of the government and the EU, which have created a legal framework that results in sweatshop-like conditions for workers, all while prioritizing the maximization of capitalist profits.
