The KKE strongly condemned the military attack launched by the USA in early January against Venezuela and its people. Months ago, we denounced the military build-up and the growing aggression towards the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. We expressed our solidarity with the people of Venezuela, who are the only ones with the right to determine developments in their homeland, as well as with the Communist Party of Venezuela, which operates under extremely difficult conditions. From the outset, we responded militantly with demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki, and other cities, while continuing to mobilize and inform the people about the new, dangerous developments through multifaceted initiatives.
The KKE rejects the imperialists’ flimsy pretexts for this new crime and exposes the real causes behind it: the true aim of the US imperialist intervention is to seize Venezuela’s energy wealth and align the region with US economic and geopolitical interests, at the expense of its competitors, China and Russia.
We denounce the despicable and cynical stance of the Greek government which, acting as a protector of US imperialism, fully adopts all the pretexts put forward by the USA. In doing so, it denies the Venezuelan people the right to determine the course of events in their own country and goes so far as to deliberately turn a blind eye to the violation of the already tattered “international law” that it otherwise claims to uphold. In this way, it also lends credibility to the unacceptable claims of the Turkish bourgeoisie in Cyprus, the Aegean, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The KKE will continue its struggle against the new threats posed by North American imperialism against Cuba, Greenland, Colombia, and other countries. We express our deep internationalist solidarity with the Cuban people and the Communist Party of Cuba, as well as with all the peoples around the world.
In Europe, a process is underway to seek a temporary compromise in Ukraine, led by the USA and Russia (Trump and Putin), with the involvement of Ukraine and EU member states. Even if such a compromise is reached, it will not alter the overall trend toward sharpening competition. Any temporary compromise will, in any case, rest on the legitimization of the faits accomplis of the imperialist war, namely the division of Ukraine and its wealth-producing resources, as well as the penetration and competition of monopoly groups in the profitable field of the now-devastated areas. This, in turn, will lead to a new round of imperialist competition. Meanwhile, the war continues, with each imperialist alliance advancing its own interests and rapidly intensifying its war preparations, thereby multiplying the risks of a generalized imperialist war.
NATO is preparing for a generalized war in Europe, deploying forces and reinforcing military bases along the Russian border, modernizing its conventional and nuclear arsenal, and supplying Ukraine with modern equipment.
The EU, exercising a degree of relative autonomy, is strengthening its war economy and war preparations, which are spreading across all sectors and areas of the economies of its member states, with Germany and France playing pivotal roles. It has allocated more than €800 billion for the “rearmament of Europe”, reinforcing existing funds and establishing new ones, along with programmes dedicated to military purposes, while at the same time intensifying the attack on workers’ and people’s rights.
The EU, together with NATO, is implementing the plan for “military mobility”, the “military Schengen”, allowing military forces and equipment to be swiftly transported to the war front in a matter of hours. The so-called “coalition of the willing” —consisting of the USA, the UK, France, Poland, and the Baltic countries— is preparing to deploy military forces to Ukrainian territory under the pretext of providing “security guarantees”. This plan has triggered a response from Russia, which has threatened to escalate the war and use modern conventional missiles and nuclear weapons.
The KKE has consistently stood by the Palestinian people, condemning their occupation and genocide by the murderous state of Israel, with the support of the USA, NATO, and the EU. From the very first day of the Israeli atrocities and genocide in the Gaza Strip under the pretext of the Hamas attack in October 2023, the KKE expressed its unwavering internationalist solidarity and strongly denounced the attempts to defame the Palestinian struggle led by the New Democracy government and other bourgeois parties that sided with Israel and the war criminal Netanyahu, promoting fabrications about the occupier’s “right to self-defence”.
Our Party has revealed that the broader goal of Israel and the USA is to reshape the economic and geopolitical landscape of the “New Middle East”. This is being pursued through Israel’s agreements with several Arab states (the Abraham Accords) and the implementation of the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), aimed at countering China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” and Iran’s plans.
The temporary truce, imposed in October through US intervention, serves to perpetuate the Israeli occupation and effectively nullifies the two-state solution. The massacre of the Palestinian people continues in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, which is being turned into a US–Israeli protectorate. The struggle continues for an independent Palestinian state within the borders that existed prior to June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, with territorial integrity, without occupying forces, settlements, or settlers, with the release of political prisoners and the return of refugees.
