The Sectoral Organization of Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Attica Party Organization of the KKE organized an successful event entitled “Artificial Intelligence: A Weapon of Exploitation and Imperialist Wars, or a Tool for the Society We Need—Socialism?”. The strong interest shown by workers in the sector —already evident from discussions held by Party Organizations with colleagues in workplaces in the preceding days— was reflected in the participation of hundreds of workers at the event.
In the keynote address, Manolis Rapanakis, member of the Central Committee of the KKE, pointed out that the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in production by IT and telecommunications business groups has a direct impact on workers, their working conditions and their lives, while concerns and ideological debate regarding its nature are becoming increasingly pronounced in workplaces.
He stressed that AI is a major scientific and technological achievement. However, under capitalism, it is utilized according to the profitability requirements of business groups rather than the needs of the people. He also focused on the possibilities that AI could offer within the framework of workers’ power and the socialist organization of the economy and society. In this context, he emphasized that technological progress alone is insufficient to guarantee a better life for the people so long as it remains constrained by the limits of the capitalist path of development.
