The KKE is the heart of great struggles

On 25 June 2022, the GS of the CC of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, delivered a speech at a mass political rally in Drapetsona (western district of Piraeus), as part of a two-day festival of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE).

D. Koutsoumbas referred to the numerous additional problems faced by the working class and popular strata of the region that burden their lives, such as the lack of free space, waste management, and environmental pollution. He stressed that: “The ND government continues its policy undeterred —as does the regional authority— taking up the baton from SYRIZA. They all have their own share of responsibility. And this responsibility cannot hide behind the narrative of ‘development’, from which both the business groups and the people will supposedly benefit. The opposite has always been happening. The heavier exploitation of the workers is a prerequisite for their development. The growth of the profits of shipowners and business groups presupposes a heavier blow on labour rights in the workplaces, ships, and retail shops. It means even greater difficulties for the survival of the self-employed small tradesmen in Piraeus. That is why the mockery of SYRIZA and its MPs in Piraeus, who today are raising their voices against everything they voted for when in government, is outrageous. They are hypocrites because today the ND is based on their policy.”

The GS of the CC of the KKE referred to the struggles of the workers in the region and underscored that “the KKE and KNE were the heart and organizer of the popular struggle in the battles that were waged. The communists of Piraeus informed the people in the workplaces and the neighbourhoods; they highlighted the popular demands in the Parliament, in the municipal and regional councils; they opposed the anti-popular policy; they organized the resistance and struggle”.

Speaking about the possibility of early parliamentary elections, he noted that “The difficulties of the system concern the implications of the involvement in the war in Ukraine, the developments in the escalating Greece-Turkey crisis, but also the new economic crisis that is just around the corner in the EU with serious consequences for the Greek economy. Therefore, the bourgeois staffs see that at least one more bourgeois party is needed to deal with those ‘difficult’ issues; they need a government of ‘national cooperation, mutual understanding, and tolerance’. They can and will form it because all the bourgeois parties, the ND, SYRIZA, and PASOK/KINAL, despite their differences, come to an agreement in regard to the strategic goals of the ruling class they are serving”.

The GS of the CC of the KKE also referred to the international developments and the imperialist war in Ukraine and once again condemned Greece’s involvement in the criminal plans of NATO, the EU, and the USA. He also denounced the reactionary decision of the US Supreme Court that paves the way for the ban on abortions and spoke of a “return to the Dark Ages”.

D. Koutsoumbas highlighted that “only the KKE lights the way for the people. And that is the new society we are struggling for and envisioning, the new world of creation, socialism.”
