The assemblies of toiling farmers and livestock breeders at the roadblocks in Thessaly— which for 52 days have been at the centre of a fierce battle for survival amid ongoing confrontation with government policies and the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), both of which are driving them to ruin— reaffirmed the conviction that their just and heroic struggle will continue with renewed experience and in diverse forms.
The farmers voiced their anger at the government’s intransigence, making it clear that their mobilizations will go on with greater experience and momentum. They stressed that they will employ all appropriate forms of struggle, fully aware that this is a demanding, long-term, and multifaceted struggle.
They emphasized that, despite attempts by the government and other mechanisms to slander and undermine both their struggle and unity by all possible means, they have resolutely upheld their just demands, rendering such efforts ineffective.
Following extensive discussions at the assemblies, during which ideas and proposals for the continuation of the struggle were presented, the farmers at the Nikaia (Larissa) roadblock decided to withdraw their tractors in an orderly manner on Friday, driving them in a procession through the centre of Larissa.
The date for the withdrawal of tractors from the E - 65 roadblock in Karditsa will be decided tomorrow at a meeting scheduled for 12:00 noon at the Sofades Cultural Centre, with the participation of 60 representatives from villages across the prefecture.
Both roadblocks decided that, next month, in coordination with the other roadblocks nationwide and following a meeting of the Nationwide Roadblock Committee, the question of organizing a nationwide rally in Athens will be raised.
