On 24 June, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, GS of the CC of the KKE, attended the opening of the “Vietnam Days in Greece” events, organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Athens, and delivered a greeting.

In his address at the opening of the exhibition, Dimitris Koutsoumbas noted:

“I welcome the holding of the Vietnam Days in Greece.

This initiative offers the Greek public an opportunity to engage with aspects of Vietnam’s history and culture, thereby strengthening the bonds of friendship and solidarity between our two peoples.

I would particularly like to highlight the thematic photography exhibition entitled From the Patriotic Young Man Nguyen Tat Thanh to the Symbol of National Liberation, Ho Chi Minh.

This exhibition is dedicated to the leader of the Vietnamese people and the arduous struggle he waged for independence. He was a figure of the international revolutionary movement and culture who, through his actions, left an indelible mark on the Vietnamese people’s hard-fought struggles for national and social liberation.

At a time when efforts are being made to rewrite history in order to criminalize popular struggles and slander revolutionary traditions, events that illuminate historical memory and truth are particularly important. They affirm that imperialism is not invincible and that the people have the power and can become masters of their own destiny.

Allow me to note that tomorrow, 25 June, marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of Comrade Kostas Sarantidis, who fought alongside the Viet Minh against French colonialism.  The legendary Nguyen Van Lap, a decorated Hero of the People’s Armed Forces of Vietnam and a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Greece, served as a living link between the peoples of the two countries and their struggles.

On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece, I sincerely wish every success to the exhibition and to all the events being held as part of the Vietnam Days in Greece.”
