At the same time as the government and the other bourgeois parties attempt, from the podium of the Thessaloniki International Fair, to trap the people in the false dilemmas of economic “stability”, workers’ unions and federations, organizations of the self-employed, farmers’ unions, and student unions are organizing a mass nationwide rally in Thessaloniki. Their aim is to bring the people’s needs and the right to a dignified life to the forefront, in the face of the brutality of imperialist war and exploitation.
Preparations for the rally have been intensified in recent days, with hundreds of campaigns and discussions aimed at mobilizing, in an organized manner, thousands of workers from factories, construction sites, department stores, offices, public-sector agencies, and a wider range of workplaces, rallied in their unions.
They are determined to show that, with the world in flames and capital declaring war on their lives, they have no intention of waiting, embracing new illusions, or placing their hopes in government saviours. Instead, they are setting their own agenda, rejecting the pricing of their lives —an agenda that will shatter the empty promises of the government and the opportunist opposition.
They are preparing to make their own declaration and take their own steps toward organization and coordinated action, based on their own needs and under the slogan: “No sacrifices for their profits and wars. Give money for wages, healthcare, and education.”
