The largest all-workers’ conference ever organized in Greece took place successfully on Saturday 4 April in Athens. The event brought together more than 2,000 trade unionists, representing 720 trade union organizations from across the country, in response to the call: No sacrifices for war and their profits – Organization and struggle on the path to overthrow”.

The conference was attended by the most dynamic and militant section of Greece’s labour and trade union movement — trade unions and unionists waging significant class struggles against employers and the bourgeois state, so that the working class can breathe again and step to the forefront in opposition to profit-driven policies that cause daily crimes in the workplace, depress wages and pensions, erode workers’ and people’s rights, and, today, are driving the people towards the devastation of war.

Through a lively process, valuable experience was shared —from efforts to organize workers’ collective struggle through trade unions, Labour Centres, and Federations, to the important advances made in practice, demonstrating the potential for the labour movement to regroup its forces, shift the balance of power, and move onto the counteroffensive!

At the Nationwide Conference of PAME, a strong message of internationalist solidarity and common struggle among workers worldwide was conveyed, with the participation of delegations from trade union organizations across the globe. Among those who addressed the Conference were Pambis Kyritsis, General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), Kamel Hamid, General Secretary of the General Federation of Palestinian Workers, Mohammed Yahya, General Secretary of the Alliance of Palestinian Trade Unions, and Pedro Eusse, General Secretary of the United Confederation of Venezuelan Workers (CUTV).

Representatives of trade unions from Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Germany also took part.

The Nationwide Conference of PAME concluded with the election of the new PAME Secretariat.
