The Greek government must, without hesitation, reject Trump’s invitation to the upcoming meeting of the so-called “Board of Peace”, whose aim is to implement the plan to turn Gaza into a US–Israeli protectorate and an “El Dorado” for investments, in which there will be no place for the homeland of the long-suffering Palestinian people.
At the same time, as it appears, this “Board” seeks to assume a broader role by legitimizing the imperialist interventions and plans of the USA and its allies around the world, bypassing even the already tattered norms of International Law and the UN.
Mr. Mitsotakis, who from the outset has given his full support to the murderous state of Israel and the war criminal Netanyahu, must stop hiding behind what other EU countries may do and take a clear position by rejecting the invitation, while committing that not a single Greek soldier will be sent to Gaza. Anything else would be a disgrace to the country and would run completely counter to the will of the Greek people, serving only the interests of Greek business groups seeking to secure a share of the reconstruction pie.
All the government has to do is stop ignoring the unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament in 2015 and proceed with the recognition of the independent Palestinian state, within the borders established prior to 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
