The MEPs of the KKE, Kostas Papadakis and Lefteris Nikolaou-Alavanos, submitted a Question to the European Commission denouncing the unacceptable witch-hunt and the provocative persecution of dissent that is taking place in the Czech Republic.

Such an example is the unacceptable political prosecution of Josef Skála, cadre of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, and other people. J. Skála was sentenced by the Prague Court to 8 months’ imprisonment with 18 months’ suspension for having expressed doubts in a radio broadcast about the Czech authorities’ claim that the Soviet Union was allegedly responsible for the mass grave of Polish officers in the Katyn Forest, presenting research results and university sources defending the opposite view.

As is well known, on 13 April 1943, almost two months after the crushing of the fascist military machine in Stalingrad, a mass grave of Polish officers was found in the Katyn Forest. Both the Czech authorities and the EU, which has elevated anti-communism into its official ideology, claim that the Soviet Union is responsible, with the backing of capitalist Russia.

However, there are documented findings from academic research and documents, not only on the part of the USSR but also of the USA, France and Poland, among others, which claim that the so-called Katyn Massacre is a Nazi fabrication and provocation under the guidance of Goebbels. After the dissolution of the USSR, this falsehood is still accepted to this day by the leadership of capitalist Russia based on fabricated evidence. Besides, this case has been dismissed during the trial against the CPSU in the Russian Constitutional Court in 1992.

In view of the above, the MEPs of the KKE submitted the following questions:

“What is the position of the European Commission:

- On the demand for the immediate cessation of any prosecution against J. Skála as well as the rest of his co-defendants, recognizing the inalienable right to freedom of opinion and expression on historical events?

- On the fact that J. Skála’s prosecution and conviction was carried out based on the anti-communist declarations of the EU and the unacceptable resolutions of the European Parliament, which deliberately falsify the historical truth?”.
