Significant Success Among Teachers

Date:
Jul 7, 2026

The forces rallied by the KKE achieved a significant success at the 22nd Congress of OLME, the Sectoral Federation of trade unions representing public secondary school teachers. For the first time in 46 years, the list supported by the KKE —the Militant Rally of Educators (ASE)— emerged as the leading force, securing 26.2% of the vote, up from 22.6% in 2024.

This result was achieved alongside a significant increase in voter turnout in the elections to select congress delegates, with 31,703 teachers casting their votes, compared with 29,541 in 2024.

The outcome sends a clear and resounding message condemning both the government’s policies and the trade union forces of the opposition from the social democratic parties. It also saw the list backed by the New Democracy (ND) government lose its leading position, at a time when the dangers arising from Greece’s military involvement are intensifying and the government is escalating its anti-popular offensive against workers’ livelihoods.
