In its statement on developments in Iran, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the KKE stresses the following:
“The Communist Party of Greece condemns the provocative threats by the USA of a new imperialist military attack on Iran, in cooperation with the state of Israel, within the framework of broader imperialist competition aimed at shaping political developments in that country in accordance with their own geopolitical interests. This constitutes a continuation of the imperialist intervention in Venezuela, as well as the threats against Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Greenland.
We once again emphasize that developments in Iran must be decided by the Iranian people themselves, who are fighting for their rights against the anti-popular policies of the government and the bourgeois state. These policies have fuelled inflation, kept wages at extremely low levels, employed repression against popular mobilizations, leading to the killing of protesters, and banned the activities of the Communist Party (Tudeh) and the exercise of political rights. The people of Iran alone are competent to determine the political and social developments in their country.
For this reason, the KKE expresses its solidarity with the fighting people who can safeguard their protests and defend their own independent interests against all forms of imperialist interventions, exploitation, and machinations orchestrated by the USA and Israel.
It is evident that the professed concerns of the USA, the EU, and the Greek government regarding ‘democracy’ and ‘human rights in Iran are utterly hypocritical. These claims are used as a pretext, following their well-worn tactic, to prepare and justify imperialist interventions. Their hypocrisy is further exposed by the strategic relations they maintain with the reactionary regimes in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf monarchies, the jihadists in Syria, and the state of Israel, which continues to murder the Palestinian people.
The people must intensify their struggle by condemning imperialist threats and interventions against the peoples of Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, and other countries. They must demand that the New Democracy government disengage from imperialist plans and order the return of Greek armed forces from Euro-Atlantic missions abroad, including the Patriot missile battery deployed to Saudi Arabia and the frigate operating in the Red Sea.”
