In a statement on the US attack on Venezuela, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the KKE notes:
“The KKE unequivocally condemns the military attack launched by the United States against Venezuela and its people at dawn. The true objective of the US imperialist intervention is to plunder the country’s energy wealth and align the region with its economic and geopolitical interests, against its competitors, Russia and China, by overthrowing the Maduro government. The KKE rejects the hollow pretexts and the blatant hypocrisy of the US government, which invokes the so-called fight against drug trafficking in order to justify yet another crime. No one forgets that during the 20-year US occupation, Afghanistan was transformed into the world’s largest producer and exporter of drugs.
The KKE expresses its full and unwavering solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their just struggle against imperialist intervention in their homeland. Only the Venezuelan people themselvescan determine the future of their country and mount a decisive response to the US imperialists.
The KKE calls on the Greek people to condemn the new imperialist intervention against Venezuela en masse and to express their solidarity with its people.”
