The poeple’s discontent is growing over the consequences of the war economy and cuts to public spending on social needs. Government officials have targeted the large-scale mobilizations of Greek youth, who took up the torch on October 21 from the struggling French youth, since the root cause of the problems is the same throughout the capitalist EU. Thus, once again we saw the stepping up of the popular struggle accompanied by the government’s intensification of anti-communism:

“I am also troubled by the fact that people are voting for the KKE, which is also an authoritarian party that doesn’t believe in democracy. A party that supported Stalin, who also massacred millions of people. (...) The Communist Party is very popular among younger people. The current school occupations right now are mainly instigated by school students who support the KKE,” said K. Kyranakis, Secretary of Greece’s ruling party, New Democracy, expressing his concern about this development. It should be noted that the journalist’s question concerned the return to political life of Nazi criminal Kasidiaris, a former leading member of the Nazi organization “Golden Dawn,” who was recently released from prison.

In this way, the New Democracy cadre resorted to the unhistorical theory of the “two extremes”, that is, the equation of communism with fascism, which the EU has institutionalized, even establishing a “common day of remembrance for the victims of communism and fascism.”

Government spokesman P. Marinakis took up the baton of this anti-communist rant—an ode to the unhistorical “two extremes” theory, which whitewashes fascism—and went so far as to attempt to exonerate fascist ideology.

The Press Office of the CC of the KKE noted, among other things, that the anti-communist rant against the KKE reveals the true fears of the government and the system, especially at a time when anger and indignation over the consequences of the prevailing policies is growing of the people and the youth in Greece and throughout the EU, and when the KKEis playing a leading role to ensure this anger is expressed in a militant and organized manner in our country.

The KKE also denounced the government spokesman’s attempt to separate Golden Dawn's criminal nature from its Nazi ideology. This ideology formed the basis of Golden Dawn's crimes, as was clearly demonstrated in the trial of its murderers. Attempting to separate the two constitutes a provocative attempt to exonerate Golden Dawn.

The Press Office of the CC of the KKE concludes its statement as follows:“We advise them to stay calm and not to get tired for no reason. No matter how hard they try, such unhistorical theories, imported from the EU,  do not take root in Greece, a country steeped from end to end in the blood of communists, such as the 200 heroes executed in Kaisariani, who faced not only the German Nazis but also their Greek collaborators.Young people are learning this history, drawing inspiration from it, and will engage more actively in the struggle for their lives, alongside the KKE, against the bleak future that is being prepared for them.”

In addition to the high school and university students who took to the streets on 21 October, it should be noted that teachers and hospital doctors went on strike and demonstrated throughout Greece on the same day. Pensioners’ unions also took to the streets to fight for their rights. An international strike by dockworkers is planned for 30 October, and a nationwide general strike is planned for 25 November.

A difficult autumn and winter lies ahead for the anti-people government, which is resorting to anti-communism to get by...
