A tribute concert to Mikis Theodorakis, to mark the centenary of his birth, will be held in Chios on Friday 19 September and in İzmir on Sunday 21 September

To honour the centenary of Mikis Theodorakis’ birth, the Central Committees of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) are holding two special concerts, one in Chios (the composer’s birthplace) and one in Izmir, entitled “For the bread, the light and the song of the whole world”.

The concert In Chios will take place on Friday 19 September at 9.30 pm in Vounaki Square, as part of the events of the 51^st Festival of KNE - “Odigitis”. Nikos Sofianos, a member of the PB of the CC of the KKE, will deliver a speech, and Berkay Kemal Önoğlu, a member of the CC of TKP, will give the welcome address.

Similarly, the concert in Turkey will take place on Sunday 21 September at 8.00 pm in Bostanlı Demokrasi Meydanı in Karşıyaka, where Kemal Okuyan, General Secretary of the TKP, and Nikos Sofianos will give speeches.

The concerts will feature performances by Doros Dimosthenous and Angeliki Toumbanaki, conducted by Thodoris Oikonomou, with the participation of Gülcan Altan and her orchestra as well as Muammer Ketencoğlu.
