New strike of COSCO workers at the port of Piraeus

Workers at COSCO piers II and III are expressing their determination to sign a decent Collective Labour Agreement with a substantial pay rise, staging a 24-hour strike since midnight on 19 April.

The workers demand:

  • Increases in the pay of night shifts, of work on weekends and holidays. Salary increases in all specialities.
  • That all workers should become full-time. That the “hostage” of more than 700 workers with fixed-term contracts who live on 16 wages per month, which means half a work - half a life, should stop.
  • Inclusion of all workers in arduous and hazardous jobs, in accordance with the relevant legislation.

From the very first moment, workers from other sectors are on the side of the strikers, showing in practice their support for their just struggle.

At the same time, the attempt to criminalize the struggles is culminating. COSCO, in less than 24 hours, filed three applications for an injunction against the workers’ strikes. The court with fast track proceedings adjudicated on all three and declared the 24-hour strike illegal.
