ON THE ARMED CONFLICT BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND ARMENIA

Two peoples who had been living together and progressing in peace for 70 years, in the framework of the Soviet Union, laying the foundations for a new society, without exploitation of man by man, are once again on the verge of a generalized war.

The open wound in the relations between the two peoples, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, has festered during the past decades, as shown by the conflicts in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, due to the interests of the bourgeois classes of the two countries, amidst interventions by other forces promoting their own interests, such as Turkey, which also moves militarily on the side of Azerbaijan, the USA, the EU, and Russia.

The information that reached us, as well as the assessments that can be made, show that the military operations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are linked to the chain of intra-imperialist confrontations in Syria, Libya, the Caucasus region, Central Asia, the Balkans, and the Eastern Mediterranean, where strong monopolies and imperialist forces having different plans clash.

They try to direct the consequences of the capitalist crisis, the increase of social impasses in capitalist societies, and the tendency for social protests, to the sterile and dangerous ground of nationalism and the mutual slaughter of peoples, so that the power of the bourgeois classes is not put at stake.

The peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan, who pay the promotion of various capitalist interests with their own blood, must draw lessons from their history and put up a front against both foreign imperialist interventions as well as the interests of bourgeois classes. They must build their own wall against imperialist wars and chart a strategy of confrontation with the capitalist system that bears crises, wars, and refugees.
