On the second anniversary of the imperialist war in Ukraine
The second anniversary of the formal beginning of the imperialist armed conflict in Ukraine reminds everyone of the tragic consequences that the overthrow of socialism and the dissolution of the Soviet Union had for the peoples.
Within two years, the war on the territory of Ukraine, following the unacceptable Russian invasion and the increasing involvement of the USA, NATO and the EU, is causing the bloodshed of the peoples of two former Soviet Republics, Ukraine and Russia, who lived in peace and worked together in the USSR.
It also has dire consequences for the peoples of Europe, who have to shoulder the burdens of war, the further militarization of their countries and the preparations for new, more generalized conflicts.
The barbaric massacre of the Palestinian people by Israel, with the support of the USA and the EU, the imperialist plans and competition in the Middle East and the Red Sea and the tensions in several other parts of the world, are signs of very dangerous developments.
From the very first moment, the KKE has highlighted the anti-popular character of the war in Ukraine, which has emerged in the context of the fierce competition between the bourgeois classes and the imperialist powers for the control of markets, raw materials, transport networks and geopolitical footings in the Eurasian region.
The KKE denounces the New Democracy government, which, with the support of SYRIZA, PASOK and the other Euro-Atlantic parties, is pushing the country into the slaughterhouse of imperialist wars for the interests of a handful of exploiters and their allies in the EU and NATO.
The communists in Greece are at the forefront of the struggle of the workers’–people’s movement against Greece’s involvement in the imperialist war in Ukraine, the US bases and the war expenditures for NATO. We struggle for the disengagement of the country from the imperialist plans of NATO and the EU in Ukraine, the Middle East and the Red Sea.
We continue the struggle:
- For an end to the supply of arms and ammunition to Ukraine, which undermines the country’s defence, as well as the training of the forces of the reactionary Kiev government by the Greek Armed Forces .
- Against the deployment of the Greek frigate in the Red Sea.
- For the closure of the bases of death, which are used for the bloodshed of other peoples and target our people.
- For the return home of the Greek Patriot missiles from Saudi Arabia and of all the units of the Greek Armed Forces that are outside our borders.
- For Greece’s disengagement from the imperialist unions of the EU and NATO, with our people masters in their own land.
