The US’s direct involvement in attacks on Iran, involving the use of high-powered bombs, is a step towards escalating imperialist war not only in the Middle East, but worldwide. Following their actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Palestine, among others, the USA and its allies are shedding the blood of yet another Middle Eastern country, in order to impose their plans and gain the upper hand in the battle for supremacy in the world imperialist system. This is also the goal of the Trump administration,contrary to what various domestic mouthpieces have been saying that he would supposedly be a ‘factor for peace’.

Attempting to justify the attack in the name of ‘security’ and ‘Iran’s nuclear programme’ has nothing to do with the real objectives. These well-worn pretexts have been used for decades to justify attacks like this one, such as the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that were never found.

Following this attack, the generalization of imperialist war is taking on other, possibly irreversible, dimensions. Whatever developments occur at this stage, it is certain that the conflict between the US-NATO bloc and the Eurasian bloc under formation is evolving into a new and more advanced phase.

The New Democracy government has significant and historic responsibilities. Backed by other Euro-Atlantic parties, it has embroiled the country in an endless series of conflicts. It has embraced every pretextfor war and is spearheading dangerous and warmongeringplans, particularly through the US-NATO bases in Greece and the deployment of Greek military forces to war zones. This is turning the people and the country into targets for retaliation, as demonstrated by Iran’s statement that ‘every American military personnel in the region is a legitimate target’. This was also the reason for the recent preparations at the Ministry of National Defense for the ‘anti-missile protection of the country’.

No trust should be shown in thegovernment of war preparations and involvement. Greece must stay out of the war. The alarm must be sounded here and now. The government has neither the right nor the mandate of the Greek people to drag them into such dangerous affairs. The struggle must intensify and embrace all organizations of workers, the people and the youth, taking on more mass and militant characteristics. We must demand Greece’s immediate disengagement from the war plans of the USA, NATO, the EU and Israel;an end to all cooperation with the murderous state of Israel; the closure of US-NATO bases in Greece; and the withdrawal of the Greek frigate from the Red Sea and the artillery battery from Saudi Arabia.
